A Portrait Painting Birthday Surprise
I was very touched by the love my client showed for his wife on her 50th birthday.
My wife and I saw a display of your portrait art years ago, when our daughters were very young. My wife has always wanted one of your paintings. I would very much like to surprise her with a portrait of our three daughters at her upcoming birthday party. I would like you to paint the girls in front of the wall of an imaginary house that has turquoise shutters and bougainvillea flowers flowing down. That would capture my wife’s favorite things.
To make a better composition of the painting, I redrew the girls closer to each other than they were in the photo, changing the angles of their heads, and extending their bodies and arms. I decided to use the basic line of their clothing, but with slight design changes, and I painted the hues of their dresses to harmonize with the background. I didn’t want the background elements to overwhelm the girls, but to offset them so that the overall design would be interesting, yet balanced.
SHE LOVED IT!!! Here are birthday party photos to show how I surprised her with the gift-wrapped portrait on an easel. I’ve also attached a photo of me serenading her with five of her favorite songs. I’ve been taking guitar lessons for nearly 2 years.
