I love being a portrait artist, but since I paint sitting or standing for hours at the computer, I need to do regular exercise to keep myself healthy. That is why I am so excited about Pickleball, the fastest growing sport for players of all ages. I still enjoy Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, and Silver Sneakers, but Pickleball is the most fun game I've ever played.
Pickleball has similarities to tennis, badminton, and ping pong. It can be played indoors or outdoors, on a badminton-sized court. Here, in our complex, one of the tennis courts has been reconfigured to accommodate two Pickleball courts, one on either side of the regular tennis net. We have portable Pickleball nets that are easily rolled in and out, so that regular tennis can still be played on that court. Pickleball is played with lightweight paddles and wiffle balls.
My husband Gerry and I play mixed doubles Pickleball and, though we don’t have to run as far as in regular tennis, we’re constantly on the move. It’s a great aerobic sport for anyone, but especially seniors, and very exciting to play. We laugh the whole time and get a great workout with our friends. If you haven’t already, I hope you’ll get to try Pickleball in your area. It’s FUN FUN FUN!!!
